I feel a little restless. Knowing that I only have two and a half months left at school before my final exams, is pretty strange. I keep thinking about what it will be like when I move out from my parent's house, and what it will be like to study Japanese Studies in Denmark. I guess I'm really looking forward to it, but for now I have to concentrate on finishing high school with great marks.
Anyway, this is what I look like today. It's lovely not having to wear huge, thick woolen sweaters and two pairs of tights underneath everything. I really can't stand wearing jeans when it's too cold outside - I don't like to have freezing thighs! And no way am I gonna get some tights underneath my jeans... Luckily, it is now "warm" enough to wear jeans again, so I'm exploiting the opportunity to wear them. I guess I've been wearing mostly skirts and shorts during the winter, because they allowed me to wear numerous tights on top of each other without being uncomfortable. *laugh*

You know when your bangs are just too long to be proper bangs, and too short to blend in with the rest of your hair? Well, my hair is on that stage now. Should I cut it or leave it? Anyway, I wanted to show you what I look like today. I think green and red looks great together, but these colours fits autumn better than spring, don't they? Oh well, so be it. I hardly ever use this skirt because it is incredibly short, like if I lean forward just a centimeter, half of my butt will show. Hence the tights and the really short leggings. *laugh*

Big feet is a curse

Good evening everybody!
I'm checking out various asian internet shops, hunting for inexpensive treasures, and managed, by accident, to click "shoes". This is a cathegory I usually avoid, because it is so painful to watch what I know I will never be able to wear. With my 176 cm (69,3 inches) comes big feet. My size is a European 39/40, which equals an American 81/2/9, and a Japanese 24.5/25. When I went to Japan a few years back, I was painfully reminded that Asians have small feet, and the largest size I was able to find equaled a European 38, and on a rare occasion, a 39. I do fit in a 39-shoe, but I don't want to order a pair of shoes that might be too small for my feet. Aaww, why do their shoes have to be so pretty and lovely?!

Today I did something fun. My friend Elfi wears mostly black and white clothes, and likes skulls and stuff like that, while I'm more pink and baby blue, and like Hello Kitty - in other words very girly. Just to see how people would react, we transformed into each other for a day. I had Elfi wear my cutest pink blouse, peter pan collar, skirt and eye makeup, whereas I had to wear a top with a skull on, awesome leggings from Yesstyle, and no eye makeup. We got some funny reactions throughout the day, so I'd just like to say "mission accomplished! Elfi looks so cute in my clothes, doesn't she?

Pancakes

Hello! Last night I slept over at Elfi's place, and after lots of sweet buns, sweets, Twister, dancing to k-pop and a little bit of Japanese homework, I think the weekend has been pretty great. I've just eaten an American pancake with strawberries and mango on - yum! I'm not particularly fond of American pancakes - 1. they are too think and dry. 2. with syrup on, they are way too sweet. 3. with that creamy butter you Americans eat, they get too greasy. Therefore, I had the pancake with fruit and berries. Hope you've all had a lovely weekend!

Extreme makeover phone case edition

I don't like things that break just a few weeks after you've bought it. I bought a case for my phone in September last year, and the big, grey flower (picture below) fell off after a week. After that I stashed the case in a drawer, and thought I would never use it again. However, I've fixed it, by rearranging the remaining flower, and putting some rhinestones and a black bow on it. I think it is even prettier now than when I bought it off eBay.

So I tried on one of the nail polishes I got from H&M the other day, and the colour is sooo pretty! I thought I should share it with you. With two strokes it looks perfect. Now I'll just have to wait and see how long it lasts until it starts flaking off - it is, after all, H&M varnish.

Braided hairband

I don't know about you guys, but I like doing my hair. Today I tried something I have never done before; braiding some of my hair into a hairband. It would probably be more noticeable if my hair was thicker (and if there was more of it), but since my hair is thin, the braids are thin. *sigh* What you see on the pictures below is not just one braid you see, it is two. *laugh*

Gaaaah, I'm too tired to be at school! Luckily I slept on the train back to Oslo tonight, but I woke up around 20 times, I think. People who play Minecraft, and people who snore, are not my favourite kind of people to have around me when I want to sleep. When Gard and I arrived on Oslo Central Station half past six this morning, the first thing we did was walking to the place I work and get a triple cappuccino, while preparing for a long day at school. We were not able to go home before school, so I basically went straight from Bergen to school. Before I fall asleep in my seat, I want to show you some pictures I took of Bergen City from the Fløy. I like the miniature effect.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking: "THIS is Norway's second largest city?" I know, I know, it's not large, but it's very beautiful. Oslo is not very large either. But keep in mind that there are only around 5 million people in Norway. Oslo has about 600,000 people, and Bergen has approx. 260,000 people.

Wine and pasta

Good morning! Last day in Bergen, and we have a long, long day ahead of us. Today we are going to the Fløy, which is a mountain located right outside of Bergen. Well, the city kind of climbs the mountain to a certain degree. It's a bit strange. Yesterday we had pasta and wine, and although the wine was cheap, it tasted better than the pasta. Hah. Oh, in case you're wondering - one may drink alcohol in Norway when one are 18 years old, but you have to be 20 to buy spirits. Just to clear that up. I'm not underage, wee :)

Hello everybody! This morning, at 7am Gard and I arrived in Bergen, Norway's second largest city. The train trip lasted for eight long hours, of which I hardly slept at all. When we arrived at the hotel around half past seven, we just sat down in the lobby, waiting for the cafés and coffee bars to open. Luckily for us, the woman behind the desk felt sorry for us, and got a room ready for us, so we could settle in right away. The first thing we did was jump into bed and sleep for a few hours, and now I just need a large coffee, then I'll be my usual self again *laugh*

I'm noticing how this week has been tearing on my mood and sucking out my energy, and most of all I want to go to bed now, but since I'm going to Bergen with Gard later tonight, I have to stay awake so I can read for tests I have on Monday, and pack my bag so I won't have to wear the same clothes for the whole weekend *laugh* But first I think I'll take a break with some tea and some pineapple.

A stupid person managed to hack himself/herself onto my debit card through my baby brother's Playstation, and now I am 440 NOK poorer. You have no idea what kind of ugly words I'm telling my self right now, and I am not going to write them down, just take my word for it when I say I haven't been this angry, sad and devastated for a long time. I love this hacker so much...If thoughts could kill, I tell ya.

UPDATE:

I've calmed down. The money is gone, and there is nothing I can do about it. Right now I'm multitasking reading for my sociology test and Japanese test, while drinking tea and listening to k-pop. I hope your day have been less dramatic than mine. Good night!

Researchers // winter hair

Good evening everyone!
My sociology class was paid a visit from a researcher today, and he was, mildly spoken, a real nerd. I don't have a better word to describe him with. He was standing there in front of the class, a bit awkward, speaking reeeaally slow. He was sort of like a teddybear.
Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who gets a bit grumpy over the fact that my hair become darker during the winter? During summer, my hair is super blonde, but right now it is dark blonde, at least in the back. You see, the winter in Norway is so long, and we have little sun (some parts of Norway doesn't see the sun during the winter at all, but in return, they have sun all day round during the summer. It never gets dark!), and therefore my hair isn't bleached by the sun in the winter. I was a bit surprised to see how long my hair has gotten, though. I haven't cut it since October, it might be time soon...

Yo, people of the world. Right after I posted the previous post, Gard and I went to have breakfast on the pier in Bergen, and then we just walked around for a bit, simply to see the city. After that we decided to go to the aquarium. I love aquariums - I enjoy watching the weird fish and penguins and sealions. I felt like a little girl again *laugh* The weather here is... Bergen-ish. If I'd lived in Bergen on a regular basis, I would have cut off all of my hair - the snowflakes are the same size as bowling balls, and feels like rain, which makes my hair go in every direction. Look, a fish!

Yesterday I stopped by Accessorize when I went from my friend's birthday party to work, and picked up these super cute ear-muffs. I've been wanting them for a long time, but I didn't want to pay 200 NOK for them, so I never bought them. However, yesterday they were on sale, and I only paid 62 NOK (about 6 British pounds. What would we do without the new year's sale, guys? In addition to the ear muffs, I also bought a hat for 19 NOK on Bik Bok (that is insane, I live in Norway after all, the most expensive country of all), and a fox tail (I dunno if you even call it that, but I sure do) from HM. Crazy sale, I tell you.

How'dy!
The American ambassador in Norway visited my school today. His name is Barry White. I liked him, he was fun listening to. It was real interesting too, because he was a talented speaker, and he told us a lot about the relationship between the US and Norway. I'm glad I got to listen to him. I knew one sentence in Norwegian, even though he's been living here for three years. To me, that is a bit shocking. I could say "Jeg snakker ikke norsk", which means "I don't speak Norwegian". If I were to live in another country for four years, I would definitely learn some of the language - if not, how would you get by in everyday life? I suppose he has people who do the shopping for him and such, but still. Without trying to step on anyone's toes here, I'd say it is typical for Americans and Englishmen to not learn other languages than English, because "everyone in Norway speak English anyway", quoting Mr. White. *laugh*
Now I'm actually going to the gym, if I manage to remove my bum from the chair and into my running tights.

The year 2011 is eventually over, and it is time for a little summary of the year that has passed. 2011 gave me lots of fun, and here are some of the events I remember most.

January
The year started with a "brand new life" in Norway, after returning from my time as an exchange student in England. I dragged myself through endless classes of math, and my hair was long(er). January was like an usual winter month, with the usual depressing, dark and cold days, but at the same time there were so many new impressions all the time.

February
In February I started to think a bit more about my future. Not that I got very far. I drew a lot, I hung out with friends a lot, I became a "Community founder" for Enstyle on Facebook, and I posted my first video of me drawing. And I curled my hair a lot.

March
I went to Frankfürt (Germany) with my Economics class, the earthquake/tsunami in Japan happened, I collected money for the victims from the tsunami in Japan together with Elfi, I watched the Swan Princess again with Gard, and I just...lived at my school. Joking. Sure felt like it though.

April
I was in Göthenburg (Sweden) together with Gard, I missed Bath (England) some, and I celebrated that spring was on its way by wearing a lot of skirts - I caught a cold several times.

May
I celebrated that I would graduate from high school in a year from then, I bought an awesome case for my phone, and I celebrated Norway's national day together with the girls from my graduation party group (I think I should explain that a little better in another post). I also had a part time job.

June
I finished my second year in high school, I took the first bath in the ocean together with Elfi, Synne and Frida, I cut my fringe, I babysat two huge newfoundlenders (dogs), and I went cycling with Tempest and Elfi.

July
I enjoyed the summer at my family's summer house, I drea a lot, I lost a friend (I don't know if you heard of it, but google the 22nd of July + Norway, and you'll know how), and I stayed home alone together with Gard.

August
I spent the last days of summer with my friends, and then my last year in high school began. I also worked a lot.

September
I turned 18, and my Japanese class was paid a visit by five Japanese women, who had made us 1000 paper cranes in memory of the terrible terror attack on the 22. of July.

October
I went back to Bath to visit my friends and host family, I cut my fringe again, and I went to Rihanna's concert in Oslo. A great month, October!

November
Ellinor went to Japan and bought me a 2NE1-CD (I will never forget *laugh*), I bought my first pair of circle lenses, and I went on a trip with my friends.

December
I finished the semester with better grades than usual (yes!), the snow fell for the first time this winter, and I suddenly started watching films and tv shows all the time. I made the first gingerbreads of the year together with Gard, and I made this English blog! I celebrated Christmas with my family, and ended 2011 with a lot of chilling and doing-nothing-at-all.

Sorry, I've been bad at updating my blog for the past week. I guess I just forget to update my English blog when I update my Norwegian one. Sorry. Anyway, Christmas is over, in my case, because I've been working a lot, and since there is no snow in addition to my state of workaholicness (is that even a word?), I don't have any Christmas spirit left.
The past week has been great though, I've been with friends and family, eating tasty food and serving English and Chinese people at work - I love it when the Asians goes straight for the noodles! They always choose the noodles. Without fail. I can predict what an Asian tourist group will choose to eat - and I've been sleeping. A lot.
I got some Christmas presents I'm pretty grateful for, and for the first time ever I spent the same amount of money on my family and friends as they spent on me! Well, almost. Maybe not.

These are my presents this year. As usual, I got scarves and gloves and such - the white scarf is the softest scarf I have ever owned! I also got a Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner, which is awesome! This is the first time I've owned a gel eyeliner, and it is absolutely great. I recommend it!

I got a gift card at Acne from my parents, which I am looking forward to use!

I watched this film with my cousin the other day - such a good film! The name is quite fitting - Norwegian, eh?

My darling Elfi got me this 2NE1 CD. I'm so thankful, because no music shops in Norway sell k-pop. There's one shop that sells j-pop and j-rock, but the prices are devastating. Over 300 Norwegian kroner for a mini album is just not worth it. (That'll be around 30 pounds, or 39 euros, or 50 American dollars. Shocking!)

A couple of weeks back I bought these adorable earphones, as an extra Christmas present for Elfi. They're really cute, but unfortunately the sound is worse than a radio from the 30's, so I didn't really feel like giving them away after all. There's no fun in giving away something that sucks. *laugh* But even though they're a nightmare for my ears, they're a dream for my eyes. Super cute! I've always liked Totoro.

Silver bow

On Wednesday I bought this cute little clutch on Lindex, which I fell for immediately. It's perfect, I adore the silver colour and the bow! It was only 149 kr, which is about €19, $25 or 16 pounds. This is really cheap for a purse/bag in Norway, believe it or not. However, the quality is not the best though, but it'll probably last for some time anyway.

Exciting news, guys!
Today I spoke with a man who runs a web page called Go! Go! Nihon, which is a firm who help "foreigners", like me, to apply and enroll to schools in Japan. The course I've been considering is a 2 years long language course in Osaka, the second largest city in Japan. It is called Kansai College, and is known to be quite (very) intensive, and give its students little spare time. The alternative is Arc Academy Osaka, which is less intensive, but the school years end in March, which means I have to begin in April, and then I will have to wait for almost a year after I finish high school in June 2012. My part-time job isn't that fun. *laugh*

At the moment I have my eyes fixed on Kansai College, which I think sounds the best right now. Intensive or not, I'll be in Japan to learn Japanese, so why not learn as much as I can, as fast as I can, in the two years I'll stay there? My most prominent worry is actually the Kansai dialect, also called Kansai-ben or Osaka-ben. It is frickin' impossible for me to understand. I only know "standard Japanese". Ehe. I asked my Japanese teacher to say a sentence in Osaka-ben, and I didn't understand a thing, although I understood the sentence in standard Japanese just fine.

My whole body and mind and heart says go for it, because this is a great opportunity for me, and it is amazing that I have that opportunity to start with. To hell with useful education right after high school, I want to live in Japan and learn Japanese, and maybe make Japanese friends. I want to go no matter how much debt I will have to live with afterwards for my student loan (it is not cheap to go to Japan and study!), because this is my chance to do what I've wanted to do since I was fourteen. *laugh*

I feel so calm right now. I've gotten out of bed and sat myself by my desk and started drawing, something I have not been able to (or had the time to!) in a long time. Sure, I've got a Norwegian speech to write, an English presentation to prepare, an English mock exam to practice for, a Norwegian mock exam to read for, and I'm working this afternoon and most of the evening, but right now, in this moment, I am completely calm, and I enjoy just sitting here in my cool bedroom and draw. I like these moments more than anything.

I use them nearly every day, varying from almost completely natural ones, to absolutely crazy ones. Today is Thursday, which means spending quality time with my honeybun. Gard and I have spent the day making Norwegian gingerbread, watching Blåfjell (a Norwegian children's Christmas tv-program) and drinking mulled wine (although mulled wine is not really the right term, because Norwegian mulled wine is NOTHING like English mulled wine, for instance). In other words, I've had a perfect December afternoon. The only thing missing now is a lot more snow, sunny weather (not the snowy rain we have now) and more mulled wine and gingerbread.

Aaaah, I've had too much gingerbread today, it feels like I've been eating black pepper; my throat is kind of sore...

Peter Pan Pearls

I have finally found a collar which is actually pretty, and not filled with fake stones in various colours (why Bik Bok, why?). This one is from Gina Tricot, and it was love at first sight. Cecilie Melli has also got a really pretty collar, but 950 NOK (aprox. 122€, or 165$) is a bit too much, even for the perfect peter pan collar. Anyway, the one I bought has pearls on it, and a white ribbon and stuff - it's perfect for me! What's great about collars like this is that they give any outfit that extra spark. This collar is just the first of many to come into my wardrobe in the future! Finally the clothing stores in Norway are starting to sell stuff I want. *laugh*

Ramune

Magnus (my brother) came home with a japanese soda the other day, and wondered if I would like to have it. I said "sure", until I noticed what kind of soda it was. I have rather bad experience with the kind of soda he'd brought home: Ramune. Melon flavoured. Yuck. The first time I tasted it was when I was in Japan, and I couldn't even open the bottle myself (the manual was in Japanese, I say no more). It tasted real bad. The second time I had Ramune, I managed to open the bottle myself, but I also managed to spill half of the content in the process. Perhaps not such a bad thing, because the soda, after all, tasted bad. This time, on the other hand, I managed to open the bottle without any trouble (I'd positioned myself over the sink, just in case), but no, it tasted bad this time as well. Me and Ramune is just not meant to be. Sorry Japan, not hating on you - I like your other carbonated drinks!

This is what I've been looking like today! Went around the city with Elfi in our free - we had to buy a birthday present for Tiril, who just turned eighteen. And I had to pick up my shoes from Nilson, since they got them back from the shoemaker yesterday. It's been quite a good day, except from that I had a caffeine shock this morning; I hadn't had breakfast yet, and I downed a coffee. Spent the next three hours shaking and being really energetic and restless. Not a good feeling, so guys; don't drink coffee before you eat. Not a good idea.

Since I just got this blog started, and since the years is going towards its end, I figured I'd show you some of the nail art I've "produced" during the last year. Nail art is one of my great passions, but since I am not allowed to wear nail polish at work, I hardly ever have the opportunity to wear nail polish anymore. *sad face* Anyway, the newest pictures comes first, and the oldest comes last.

So this is kind of a bad time to start this blog. Why? I'm ill. For two and a half day I've been skipping school so that I can lie in my bed and feel sorry for myself, while I watch re-runs of lame tv-shows and reading books I've read a thousand times already. But that's what it is like to be ill, isn't it?
Anyway, welcome to my new blog! I already blog in Norwegian at heddahellekalland.blogg.no, but since I want to widen my horizon a bit, I figured I'd make an additional blog where I write in English. Great, eh? So I'll basically be posting the same posts on both blogs, only in different languages. That shouldn't be too hard, should it? I'll make an about me-page as soon as possible, and then we're on!
